Wilson Concepts of Florida operated a precision machine parts manufacturing facility on a 2-acre site in Pompano Beach from 1967 to 1987. Spills and overflows during those years contaminated both soil and groundwater. EPA added the site to the National Priorities List in 1989 and worked with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection to investigate conditions.
Groundwater contaminants include 1,1-dichloroethane, 1,4-dichlorobenzene, acetone, arsenic, chloroethane, manganese, molybdenum, and zinc. Soil contaminants include metals such as barium, cadmium, chromium(VI), copper, lead, manganese, mercury, nickel, vanadium, and zinc, along with organic compounds including bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate and toluene. All contaminants fall under Operable Unit 01.
EPA issued a cleanup plan in September 1992 that called for monitoring rather than active remediation. Quarterly groundwater monitoring ran through 1994 and confirmed that groundwater meets federal drinking water standards. A soil sampling event in April 2018 tested for hexavalent chromium and confirmed the soil meets criteria for unrestricted use with no exposure controls needed. EPA has determined that human exposure is under control at the site, with no unacceptable exposure pathways identified.
EPA deleted the site from the National Priorities List in April 1995. The site achieved Sitewide Ready for Anticipated Use status in July 2018, meaning cleanup is complete and no additional work or five-year reviews are planned. Precision Metal Industries, a sheet metal manufacturer, currently operates at the location. As of December 2024, the business employs 81 people and generates an estimated $23,980,000 in annual sales revenue.
