Lane Plating Works operated as an electroplating facility at 5322 Bonnie View Road in Dallas, Texas for over 90 years before closing in 2015. The site was added to the EPA's National Priorities List (NPL) in May 2018. It is organized into a sitewide operable unit and OU 1 Source, which focuses on the source area of contamination.
The facility conducted hard chromium and cadmium plating. That work left behind contaminated soil and shallow groundwater. A Human Health Risk Assessment found seven contaminants at unacceptable risk levels: hexavalent chromium, mercury, lead, arsenic, PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate), PFHxS (perfluorohexanesulfonic acid), and antimony. An ecological risk assessment also flagged potential risks to birds and mammals from antimony, cadmium, and lead in surface soil of the process area.
Cleanup has moved through several phases. An initial removal in 2016 pulled more than 188,000 pounds of waste material from the site. A combined Remedial Investigation and Feasibility Study ran from September 2018 through February 2024 to map contamination and evaluate cleanup options. From November 2022 through August 2023, crews excavated contaminated soil from the process area down to five feet deep and replaced it with clean fill. The Main Plating Building and Hazardous Waste Treatment Building were also demolished during this period. Human exposure is currently under control, though contaminated groundwater spread has not yet been confirmed as stabilized, and additional remedial work remains.
The EPA released a Proposed Plan in February 2025. A Record of Decision documenting the selected cleanup remedy is estimated for April to June 2026. Remedial design is expected to follow from August to October 2026, with the actual remedial action starting between June and August 2028. The site is not yet ready for its anticipated future use, and construction of the full cleanup is not complete.
